Held every October over four days, The Royal Geelong Show brings the county to meet the city in what is regarded as Australia's biggest four day agricultural show. Some of the finest animals from the region compete in a wide range of categories, while there are a huge array of displays, carnival rides, show bags and fun for the whole family.
With the region around Geelong having some of the world's best wool the competition is world class in the Sheep Pavilion. The Cattle Pavilion is a chance for people to see some of the magnificent dairy and beef stock. Horses are a crowd favourite with many equestrian competitions conducted on the grand arena.
Dozens of breeds of Dogs and Cats also battle it out for awards. The poultry shed is always a noisy experience which everything that chirps, clucks, quacks and gobbles on show. The animal nursery is also a favourite especially with the younger visitors, where there are dozens of types of baby animals with their mothers on display.
There are various Art and Craft displays and competition is usually very fierce in the cookery and produce sections. Large pavilions turn in to huge exhibitions where several of our local businesses show off their latest products and services including a huge rural exhibition with farm equipment and machinery.
The western side of the show grounds is home to the carnival and side shows, show bags and the amazing rides, where each year they get more exotic and more thrilling and certainly stomach churning. The area is a huge hit with the youth on Friday and Saturday nights.
The show grounds is also home to an amazing historic collection of steam machinery, as well as regular rallies throughout the year the Geelong Show is a chance for them to be started up and awe the huge crowds with their burping and chugging machines.
Dusk sees the traditional fireworks display, while no trip home is complete without a hand full of show bags, and you haven't visited the show properly until try a delicious Dagwood Dog and some fairy floss!
